Crouch Engineering has performed work and completed projects in over 40 states, Australia, Canada, Chile, and West Africa, serves almost the railroad industry in many ways.  We are considered by many railroads and private industry to be an extension of our customer's own engineering departments.  For some railroads, we provide the same services that an in-house engineering department would perform.

Crouch Engineering provides virtually any railway engineering service required by railroads.  We serve Class 1 railroads; Short Line and Regional Railroads; and government agencies such as railroad authorities, cities, counties, industrial development boards, state governments, and DOT's.

Crouch Engineering's professional staff includes railway engineers, geotechnical engineers, bridge and structural engineers, transportation, site, and environmental engineers, as well as a support staff of surveyors, technicians and draftsmen, all trained in FRA Roadway Worker Protection and safety training on many railroads.

Our railroad track design and railroad bridge design experience, coupled with experience using railroad and AREMA guidelines and standards results in projects that are built to last, with economic design, can be built under traffic, and fit with the individual railroad's operating needs.

Some of the types of projects we have successfully completed for our clients include:

  • Mercedes-Benz USI - Railroad Yard Expansion, track design for loading facility and sidings, preparation of plans and specifications
  • Locomotive Shop Design - San Luis and Rio Grande Western - Design of railroad locomotive and car repair shop - included inspection pits, transfer table, offices, and railroad track design for the railroad tracks serving the shop
  • Hickman - Lewis County - South Central Tennessee Railroad Authority - Feasibility Study for 26 mile long new railroad route, included preliminary track design, bridge design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, cost estimates, and a final report of feasibility
  • Lincoln Oil - Design of Tracks to serve a Fuel Blending Facility - included survey, design, bid phase, contractor selection and construction observation.
  • Bridge Load Rating - New England Central - Inspected bridges and load rated over 300 bridges
  • Bonny Oaks - Hamilton County Railroad Authority - Designed a 3 - track railroad bridge for the VW project in Chattanooga, TN - provides access by NS and CSXT to the VW site
  • Hickory Valley Road Highway Overpass - Designed a highway bridge over 3 tracks of the Hamilton County Railroad Authority - Chattanooga, TN
  • Double track main line projects, siding projects, and intermodal facilities - Crouch Engineering designs many siding, yard, connection track, double track main line projects, and intermodal facility track designs for class 1 railroads annually, including roadbed and track design, grade crossing design, signal systems, and railroad bridges.

Crouch Engineering serves the railroad industry in many ways.

Our Clients include Class 1 railroads; Short Line and Regional Railroads; and government agencies such as railroad authorities, cities, counties, and state governments and DOT's.

Crouch Engineering personnel are trained in Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules and safety requirements, and are individually trained on an annual basis in FRA Roadway Worker Training on many railroads.

Safety is No. 1.  At Crouch Engineering, safety training is on going.  Our staff is trained to work on railroad property, minimizing risk and conforming to railroad rules.

Anyone can design a roadbed, and sometimes can get a track design right.  However, it takes years of expertise working for railroads and the railroad industry to design the safest, most economical, workable track designs.  Our creative solution, cost saving track design, and quality plans and specifications, along with competitive bidding for construction insures the best project outcome at the lowest cost.

Crouch Engineering manages its clients' projects from start to finish, from planning and inspections, to survey and design, as well as bid phase and construction project management.

Whether your project includes railroad track design, railroad bridge inspection, bridge load rating, or other railway engineering tasks, Crouch Engineering is staffed, trained, and equipped to handle your needs.

We're not the 800 pound gorilla - to your benefit we provide quick service, with attention to detail, with your project outcome as our first priority.
