Crouch Engineering provides civil and railroad engineering consulting services to private industry, railroads and federal, state and local government agencies. Founded in 1991 by Harvey Crouch, our firm has acquired more than 200 years combined national and international railway engineering experience.  Crouch Engineering is an acknowledged leader in the business of providing design, planning, surveying, layout, rehabilitation, and construction management of railroad tracks, bridges, shops, yards, industry tracks and related structures.

We are dedicated to providing safe, economical and practical designs.  More than anything, we deliver innovative solutions.  We operate just like an in-house engineering department for private industry, as well as short line and class 1 railroads, providing the prompt personal service and attention to detail that our clients require.

We get to know our clients well and assist in areas beyond engineering.  For example, a typical relationship might start with a simple maintenance of way project helping clients attract rehabilitation funds for track and bridge upgrades utilizing government funding.  As we learn about your business, we can assist your staff in planning, justifying projects, helping to attract new shippers and overcoming any concerns from public bodies and governments.  Not only are we are able to assist with projects in the USA, but also we have experience working with Railroads in Canada, South America, and Australia.

We get to know the various stakeholders in clients’ railways and have built an excellent reputation with state Departments of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration, which accept our findings without independent back-up or auditing.  Estimates and projections are accepted as fact, and Crouch is on the short list of engineering consultants recommended by Departments of Transportation in most of the 40 states where we are licensed.

Harvey Crouch, P.E., founder and president, is a 1982 graduate from Tennessee Technological University with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering.  In 1989 he received a M.S. in Environmental Engineering.  Prior to founding Crouch Engineering in 1991, Harvey served with Southern Railway/Norfolk Southern in Industrial Development, and as a construction engineer and track supervisor.

Crouch Engineering Microstation and AutoCAD computer aided design tools and is fully equipped with the latest GPS, total station and laser-based surveying equipment.  These tools enable tasks to be completed quickly and accurately.
